Elegant Universe

It is official now: I am coming back to CERN.
I will not miss this too much. My friends (less and less), my family and Raquel. That´s it. Barcelona is not a city anymore, it is just a hole where its habitants have forgotten the first thing to do when you are in a hole: to stop digging.
I leave again to CERN. This time for two years. Two years that, with just a bit of luck, will allow me to see the beams running into the LHC.
I want this post to be a tribute to those two beams and the whole world that they represent. When I completed my PhD I decided to keep myself away from basic research for some months, even years. I have spent more hours reading about politics, history, romance, watching Friends and Sex & the City, going out and talking more to people that did not know and did not care about the unmatch between General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics.
Last months have been rather hard for me from an intellectual point of view: rediscovering the real Barcelona, finding out the lack of freedom in my hometown, listening to political men leading a whole coutry to the hole of tirany... It has been too much.
Luckily, Science is still there.
There are still books, magazines, news, that talk about men and women who really deserve our applause.
I found a book: "The Elegant Universe" that talks about Einstein, Plank, Born, Heissemberg, Dirac, a book that gives a bit of peace in a world of politicians which seem to have become crazy.
I have not finished the book yet so I will not comment anything else about it. However I cannot resist to show you the website from where you can download the television version of it. Be patient, it really worths to spend 3 hours with it.
I am sad to leave my circumstances in Barcelona (though I will try to bring some of them with me) but I am glad to be able to contribute to this world again.
Far from nazionalisms, from fanatisms, from tirany... enjoying again the freedom of the Science.
Again at CERN.
